Negative interest

Negative interest

30 June 2022

As you know, we have high costs for depositing our liquidities with the European Central Bank (ECB) due to the negative interest environment. As a result, we unfortunately have to pass on certain costs to you.

Negative interest rates and your threshold
Per January 1st 2021, Van Lanschot Switzerland introduced a graduated scale for calculating negative interest on your cash. Every quarter we will determine the interest conditions on the basis of your investments and loans with Van Lanschot Switzerland. We only calculate negative interest fees on Euro (EUR) and Swiss francs (CHF). Cash for which you already pay a flat fee, or for which you have a signed alternative fee agreement with us per 1 January 2021, is excluded from this arrangement.

Until July 2022 the regular negative interests of 50bps for EUR and 100bps for CHF will still be charged.

As of August 1, we will lower the negative interest rates with 50%. Per 1 October 2022, we will reduce all negative interest rates further to 0. This means a tariff of -25bps for EUR and -50bps for CHF applies during the months August – September 2022, as shown in the table below. In case you only hold cash with us, there is no exemption threshold.
